A., grupo operador de todos los hoteles de Cayos de Villa Clara, Cuba, aseguraron a Granma Internacional que la oferta extra-hotelera de este paradisiaco destino, el más joven del país, se ampliará con la construcción del primer campo de golf del territorio, ubicado en tierra firme.

Cayos de Villa Clara, con cerca de seis mil habitaciones en hoteles con categoría cinco estrellas, fundamentalmente, y perspectivas de crecimiento que elevarían a casi el doble esa cifra, es el entorno exclusivo y paradisiaco que la 32ª Feria Internacional de Turismo FITCuba 2012, a celebrarse allí del 8 al 12 de mayo de 2012, promoverá como destino.
Cayo Santa María, conocido por su belleza como la Rosa Blanca de los Jardines del Rey, posee once kilómetros de playas de excelente calidad y fondos marinos muy bien conservados, con gran variedad de especies coralinas y de peces, lo cual los hace ideales para la práctica del buceo. Las Brujas y Ensenachos no se quedan atrás: playas vírgenes de finísima arena y un notable endemismo en su flora y fauna caracterizan sus increíbles paisajes. Este espectacular destino quedó unido a tierra firma en 1995 al concluirse un pedraplén de 48 kilómetros de longitud que parte del pueblo pesquero de Caibarién. La colosal obra de ingeniería cubana recibió el Premio Internacional Puente Alcántara (1998-2000), destinado a reconocer y galardonar, dentro del ámbito iberoamericano, a la obra pública que reúna, a juicio de un jurado especializado, mayor importancia cultural, tecnológica, estética, funcional y social.
En Cayos de Villa Clara se potencia el turismo de familia con grandes posibilidades de desarrollo en el país, teniendo en cuenta la competitividad de Cuba como destino seguro y sano donde se preserva el medio ambiente y se garantiza la sostenibilidad. Canadá, Argentina (país invitado de honor a FITCuba 2012), Reino Unido y México, entre otros, constituyen los principales mercados emisores de turistas, aseguraron a Granma Internacional directivos Frank País Oltuski Rodríguez, vicepresidente de Mercadotecnia del Grupo de Turismo Gaviota, S. A. Este Grupo es el que opera todos los hoteles de los cayos y la infraestructura extra-hotelera, incluida una marina, un aeropuerto para aviones de pequeño y mediano porte y el acuario-delfinario. Cayos de Villa Clara comenzó a comercializarse en el 2001, cuando abrió sus puertas su primer hotel, Sol Santa María, en Cayo Santa María, recordó Oltuski e informó que precisamente en ese islote es donde se sitúa hoy el grueso de las casi seis mil habitaciones con que cuenta en su totalidad este destino, el más joven del país.
En relación con las perspectivas de desarrollo de Cayos de Villa Clara, Oltuski comentó que los directivos adelantaron que en los próximos años seguirá ampliándose la oferta extra-hotelera, la cual incluye la construcción de un gran espacio en el mar, al Sur de Cayo Santa María, solo dedicado a las actividades náutico-recreativas. La construcción del primer campo de golf del territorio, ubicado en tierra firme, está en los planes, mientras que en fase de construcción se encuentra una autopista que enlazará al Aeropuerto Internacional Abel Santamaría con el pedraplén. Continuará la construcción de nuevos hoteles en los cayos Santa María y Las Brujas, lo cual permitirá que este destino turístico en su conjunto llegue a tener alrededor de doce mil habitaciones.

Las Brujas and Ensenachos, not to be left behind, have a number of undeveloped beaches and are home to important endemic flora and fauna which characterize their unique landscapes. This spectacular destination was joined to the mainland in 1995 with a 48-kilometer causeway which begins at the fishing town of Caibarién. The colossal feat of Cuban engineering was awarded the International Puente de Alcántara Prize (1998-2000), which recognizes public projects within Latin America which in the opinion of an expert jury reflect important cultural, technological, aesthetic, functional and social achievements.
