El arquitecto de campos de golf y director técnico de Santa María Golf ininterrumpidamente desde 2002, el Sr. Ignacio García Gómez, fue invitado junto con su esposa, la Sra. Anna Karpenko, a la Cena de Gala organizada por el club de golf marbellí con motivo de la celebración y entrega de premios de la primera edición del Trofeo del Presidente.
A principios de 2007, el Presidente de Santa María Golf & Country Club, el Sr. Abdulla Saudi, anunció que le gustaría ver un evento anual por invitación para agradecer a todas aquellas personas que habían hecho una contribución significativa al crecimiento y éxito del club. Por lo que la primera edición del Torneo del Trofeo del Presidente se jugó el sábado 20 de octubre de 2007 con 200 jugadores, incluidas autoridades municipales, antiguos capitanes y miembros del Comité, TT.OO. de golf y primeros socios del club. El campo estuvo impecable y disfrutaron de un tiempo perfecto. Desde ahora Santa María Golf celebrará todos los años este gran trofeo que reúne a los amigos que en algún momento han dedicado parte de su tiempo a potenciar el club.

El fin de la jornada se celebró por todo lo alto con una espectacular cena de gala para 250 personas en el emblemático hotel Don Carlos de Marbella donde se entregaron los galardones. Un encuentro entre amigos, autoridades y empresarios, todos ellos amantes del golf, asegurándose un firme y decidido respaldo a la continuidad de este gran trofeo y a la potenciación del golf en la Costa del Sol, apostando por la máxima calidad y profesionalidad en los campos, así como la permanente superación en la atención al cliente.

El jugador español y greenkeeper del club, Francisco Navarro, fue el ganador de la primera edición del Trofeo Presidente, proclamándose ganador absoluto del torneo en la clasificación final. El director de Santa María Golf desde sus inicios, el Sr. Colin Mosely, fue el maestro de ceremonias en la entrega de premios y dedicó unas palabras de sentido agradecimiento a todos los invitados.

Ignacio García in the first edition of the President´s Trophy of Santa Maria Golf & Country Club Marbella.
The President of Santa María Golf invited the international golf course architect, who is the technical director of Santa María Golf since 2002, Mr Ignacio García Gómez, and his wife, Mrs. Anna Karpenko, to the Dinner of the celebration and to the delivery of prizes of the first edition of the President´s Trophy.
At the beginning of 2007 the President of Santa María Golf and Country Club Mr Abdulla Saudi planned an annual event to invite gratefully to all those persons who have done a significant contribution to the growth and success of the club. The first edition of the President´s Trophy was played by 200 players on the 20th of October, 2007, included municipal authorities, former captains and members of the Committee, golf operators and the first members of the club. The golf course was impeccable and all players enjoyed a perfect time. Santa María Golf will celebrate every year this great trophy for the friends who in some moment have dedicated part of their time to promoting the club.
